I have been talking about all the tangible things that come into play when you decide to put you first instead of the company or companies you are working for. Let me now talk to you about something I like to refer to as “Love your Life or Live Your Love” Now we all know that when we are doing something that makes us happy we are more apt to do a better job. We also know that when we are happy time seems to fly by. We have all heard the expression “time flies when you’re having fun” I mean think about it the 8 hours at the beach goes by twice as fast as the 4 hours until lunch even though it is twice as long. This you already know but what I am going to share with you now is something you may not be aware of.
While the above is familiar to you what I have come to discover in my travels through life is that people who are truly happy have learned that to be happy you have to be doing what you want, when you want to be doing it. This is the reason the dream of being self-employed is one that so many people hold out there as their greatest dream. The realization of this dream will make a person considerable happier and along with happiness comes health. Yes, that is right. The best medicine truly is laughter and I know very few people who are going to laugh when they are doing something they don’t want to be doing. On the other hand, I have met people who have taken a huge drop in income to be able to pursue their passions and dreams and have been much better off for it. As I related back in the article “Living the Good Life” when I left the job I had and ended up at another place making 1/3 what I was making before but being able to concentrate on pursuing my own dreams and goals I started to feel like a completely different person. Also every day that I set down to share with you all the wonders and joys in my life and all the trials and tribulations, in short all the learning I have done I feel better that I ever have because I am able to pass along a wonderful and precious gift.
Now you may be saying I can’t afford to do what you did. You might be right but then again you may not need to make the drastic sudden change that I made in order to achieve the goals you have. On the other hand, you also may be giving yourself that same old excuse you have been giving yourself for why you haven’t reached your goals yet. I did that for a long time and I was great at rationalizing it to but it wasn’t until all of my rational was stripped away that I realized that it all boiled down to me lying to myself in order to feel better about myself. When I stripped away all the lies I realized that it was up to me to get out there and live my love and then and only then could I truly begin to love my life. The choice is yours and always has been you can continue as you are now or you can begin to live life to the extent you were meant to live it.
