Food For Thought

Or Lets Think About Food


     Food now you are probably thinking what does this have to do with anything. Well a whole lot more than you may think. As I started to recreate my life and began to strive for my freedom, I realized some very important things. I was happy just getting through life, grabbing a bite here, fast food there, whatever was handy. After all life was a day-to-day struggle so why would I want to extend it any longer than it already was. As I started to see a change in my life, I also started to have a change in my thinking. For the first time ever life was exciting. I was able to see where I wanted to have as long to enjoy it as I could possibly get.

     This is where my thinking about food began. I realized that the steady diet of snacks here fast food there was slowly and methodically killing me. Now don’t get me wrong I still like a hamburger now and again and like anything else, when done in moderation is fine. It is however not my main source of food intake anymore and I hope never will be again. I started to have meals that were well balanced, nutritious, and tasty. You know it is funny how we can learn to accept anything if we try hard enough. I use to truly enjoy fast food, now it is something best left for a day that I decide to take a break from the normal.

     If you are wondering why I approach this now it is because I realize that everything works together either for or against us. What we eat, drink, how much we sleep, what we do to relax, who we are around, and a host of other things all work together to either make life a pleasurable, healthy experience or an exercise in  suffering. Most people think that an exercise in suffering is ok because that is how life is supposed to be. I ask you this. Assume for a minute that you were an all powerful being and that you were going to create something. Now suppose that something was a living creature. Being that you had the power to do anything you wanted would you create their life to be constant pain and suffering or would you create it to be enjoyable.

Now I am not suggesting that we are in any way powerful enough to create such a thing but what I am saying is that if life was created to be enjoyable then tell me why so my people go through life completely miserable. Why when we have everything at our disposal, do we settle for just a scrap of what life has to offer? Even the wild animals enjoy the freedom that they were given, are they smarter or better equipped to function in this world than we are. I don’t think so but what I do think is that we have allowed ourselves to be sold a bill of goods that precludes us from have that same freedom and enjoyment.

     Getting back to food, the first step in this equation is to learn to eat healthy. Learn to enjoy our food. Learn to make it something more than just something we do to survive. I will be talking about this more in a future article but for now, I wanted to get you thinking about your diet and what you are doing to improve or tear down this wonderful body that you have. As with anything else, it is always advisable to seek professionals when making this kind of change and a talk with your doctor about modifying your diet is a great place to start besides if you are like most it has been way to long since your last checkup anyway.
